Real-Time Blackhole List (RBL), established in 1996, was and is the Internet's first distributed reputation system. Every e-mail you have or will receive in the remainder of your lifetime will be protected by at least one RBL. But e-mail is just one of more than one million apps available for Internet use. A shared trait among all Internet apps is their use of the Domain Name System (DNS). In 2011, members of the original RBL design team created the Response Policy Zone (RPZ) system, which brings distributed reputation filtering capabilities to the DNS. Today, DNS RPZ is an Internet standard.
As part of the presentation, Mr. Vixie, co-inventor of both the RBL and the RPZ, will explain the motivations and methods of distributed reputation system protection for DNS. Additionally, he will provide both open source and commercial resources where interested attendees can learn more about DNS RPZ.
